LAS VEGAS - The Milwaukee Bucks lost to Washington yesterday, 78-75 in NBA Summer League.

The Bucks were down by two in the final seconds when Tobias Harris missed a bank shot near the basket. Wizards’ first-round draft pick Bradley Beal then made a free-throw to give Washington its three-point win. The second-year Harris had 24 points and 12 points – and he became only the fourth player in the Vegas Summer League to have a 20-10 game. First-round forward John Henson had 20 points and nine rebounds in his pro debut. He missed the Bucks’ victory over New Orleans on Monday with flu-like symptoms. Milwaukee is now 1-1 in its five-game summer league schedule. The Bucks will play a select team from the NBA’s Developmental League tonight.

For the second year in a row, the Bucks failed to use their amnesty card. Tuesday was the deadline to use it, and Bucks’ general manager John Hammond said he never seriously thought about employing it. The amnesty clause has been in effect for two seasons. It allows a team to waive a player who’s still owed money, and not have that money count against a team’s salary cap or luxury tax status. The player must still be paid, however. The clause allows teams to take huge contracts off their books, like Philadelphia did when it released Elton Brand without having to include the 18-million dollars he was owed on its salary cap. It can only be used for contracts in place in the previous collective bargaining agreement that was replaced a year ago. It can be used once in the new agreement.

The Marquette Umiversity men’s basketball team has lost a highly-touted guard it was about to get from the junior college ranks this fall. T.J. Taylor withdrew from Marquette after just two weeks on the Milwaukee campus. Coach Buzz Williams said it was in Taylor’s best interest to withdraw – and the reasons are personal. Williams said he supported the decision. Taylor had transferred from Paris Junior College in Texas. He averaged 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists a game last season.

The NBA is being asked to approve a new six-year lease between the Milwaukee Bucks and their home arena. The Journal Sentinel said the extended lease was first discussed in March by the board of the BMO Harris Bradley Center – but the minutes of that meeting were not made public until this week. The paper says the longer lease would provide stability for both the Bucks and the Bradley Center, as talks continue about a new arena. Also, the arena’s financial commitments from other sponsors run for six years as well. The facility has new sponsorships from some of Milwaukee’s largest corporations – as well as a naming rights deal with BMO Harris Bank. In the recent past, the Bucks and the Bradley Center have had one-year leases. The Bucks have paid no rent in the past, and have received 27-and-a-half percent of gross receipts from concessions other than team merchandise and programs. The Bucks are the arena’s biggest tenant, accounting for 40-percent of all stadium revenues.
