Record highs set at Pierce County's spring Clean Sweep

Several record-high numbers for a spring Pierce County Clean Sweep were realized during the April 21 event, according to a report from the county’s solid waste department this week.
A record-high 35,601 pounds of total combined waste was collected by Veolia Environmental Services, with which the county contracted for identifying, collecting, packaging, transporting and safely disposing of all the hazardous waste. This was an increase of 10,283 pounds over the 25,318 pounds collected in the spring of a year ago. The average weight of waste delivered and collected per vehicle this time was 90 pounds, a decrease of 12 pounds from the spring 2011 event.
