Minnesota Sports-- The Minnesota Twins used a pair of Ryan Doumit homers to defeat the Kansas City Royals 7-5 on Sunday.
KANSAS CITY - The Minnesota Twins used a pair of Ryan Doumit homers to defeat the Kansas City Royals 7-5 on Sunday.
Doumit joined elite company by becoming only the third Twins in the history of the franchise by homering from both sides of the plate in the plate in the same game. Doumit finished the day 3 for 4 with 4 runs batted in and scored three times. Right handed pitcher Samuel Deduno got his first big league win for Minnesota. Deduno allowed just one run over six and one third innings pitched. The win moves the Twins to just a half game behind the Royals for fourth place in the American League Central. The Twins are in Chicago tonight to start a three game series with Chicago. Fransisco Liriano will face the Sox Gavin Floyd tonight, first pitch is set for 7:10(CT).

Semoine Augustus scored a game high 23 points to lead Team USA's women basketball team to a 80-61 win over Turkey in a Olympic exhibition game on Sunday in Turkey. Augustus was 6 of 8 from the field and grabbed 2 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 23 minutes of play Sunday. Minnesota native Lindsey Whalen also contributed to the win scoring 6 points grabbing 3 rebounds and adding 2 assists. The women's team will practice the next two days in Turkey before they head to London to prepare for the opening ceremonies on Friday. Olympic pool play get underway on Saturday when Team USA will face Croatia.

Team USA Men's basketball team hung onto a 86-80 win over Argentina on Sunday in Spain. Team USA was led in scoring by Kevin Durant who scored a game high 27 points. Kobe Bryant added 18 points for the Americans and Lebron James scored 15 points pulled down rebounds and added 5 assists for Team USA. Next up for Team USA is their final Olympic exhibition game tonight versus Spain before they head to London for the opening ceremonies on Friday. Olympic pool play begins on Sunday for the men's teams when they take on France in their Olympic opener.

The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 97-91 in the final game of their 2012 summer league. The Wolves were led by forward Mike Smith who scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Minnesota finished their week of play in the Las Vegas summer league with a 4-1, that ties their best summer league record in Wolves history.
