Smith signs contract extension with U
Minnesota Sports-- The University of Minnesota and men's basketball coach Tubby Smith have agreed to a three-year contract extension.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota and men's basketball coach Tubby Smith have agreed to a three-year contract extension.
The Golden Gophers are coming off a 23-win season and an appearance in the NIT Championship game. The extension will keep Tubby with "the Maroon and Gold" through the 2016-2017 season.
Smith issued a statement saying "the University of Minnesota is the right place for us...I believe that we can get the job done here." New U of M Athletic Director Norwood Teague says he looks forward to working with Coach Smith into the future to help lift Gopher basketball to even greater heights. Smith has led Minnesota to pair of NCAA Tournament berths and two NIT's in his five seasons.
