Minnesota Sports Briefs: Twins swept away by White Sox
Minnesota Sports-- The Chicago White Sox pounded the Twins 8-2 Wednesday afternoon to complete the three-game sweep at U.S. Cellular Field.
CHICAGO - The Chicago White Sox pounded the Twins 8-2 Wednesday afternoon to complete the three-game sweep at U.S. Cellular Field.
Starter Nick Blackburn gave up eight runs on ten hits in just four-and-a-third innings of work. Dayan Viciedo hit a two-run homer off Blackburn in the fourth inning and Alex Rios added a two-run blast in the fifth.
White Sox winning pitcher Jake Peavy allowed two runs and six hits over six innings. Justin Morneau had an RBI-double for the Twins. Chicago outscored Minnesota 26-10 in the series and hit eight home runs. The Twins went three-for-31 with runners in scoring position.
The Twins are off today and open a six-game homestand tomorrow nigh against Cleveland.

Several members of the Minnesota Lynx are working out at Target Center during the Olympic break. The defending WNBA champs are off for a month while Lindsay Whalen, Seimone Augustus and Maya Moore play for Team USA in London. Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve says this gives them an opportunity to get better on individual stuff and trying to maintain conditioning. Guard Candace Wiggins says the team will be on the same page when all the players come home from the Olympics. The Lynx return to action August 17th versus the Washington Mystics.

Diehard Minnesota Vikings fans lined up outside the Metrodome box office early yesterday for tickets to 2012 home games. Single-game tickets and packages go on sale at 9am in person at the Dome and at 10am online or at Ticketmaster locations. Fans purchasing tickets to the December 30th Vikings-Packers game are also required to buy seats for the season opener versus Jacksonsville. The players report to training camp in Mankato tomorrow and practices begin on Friday. The Vikings open their home preseason schedule August 17th against Buffalo.
