Saturday State Sports Briefs: Finley suffers concussion

GREEN BAY - Jermichael Finley and Anthony Hargrove missed Friday morning’s practice which was held indoor due to the rain.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy reported Finley had suffered a mild concussion in Thursday’s practice when players weren’t in full pads. Finley is expected to be out a day or two. He has to be cleared by a neurologist not affiliated with the team before he can return. Hargrove missed practice for what were called personal reasons.

Madison golfer Jerry Kelly fired a two under par 68 to move up into a tie for 53rd after two rounds of the Canadian Open. After shooting even par the first round, Kelly moved up 13 slots. He is nine shots behind co-leaders Scott Piercy and William McGirt entering today’s third round.

Carlos Delfino is the only Milwaukee Bucks’ player taking part in the Olympics. The small forward is playing for his native Argentina in the Games, which officially open tonight. Thirty-eight active NBA teams are competing on 11 national teams from throughout the globe. Sixteen former NBA players are also taking part. Former Buck Yi Jianlian of the Washington Wizards is playing for his native China.

Alverno College of Milwaukee has named its second class of inductees to the school’s relatively new Hall-of-Fame. The all-woman college named softball standout Jessica Goetz and cross country runner Sarah Olson to a Hall-of-Fame that was started just two years ago. Milwaukee developer Gary Grunau will be inducted into the Hall’s Trailblazer Club as a supporter of Alverno athletics. The induction ceremony will take place October fifth.
