FOND DU lAC - The driver of a car that hit 10 motorcycles and killed two bikers near Fond du Lac has pleaded innocent to a dozen felony charges.
25-year-old Clinton Lovelace was arraigned today in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court. His lawyer asked for a mental competency exam, saying Lovelace suffered amnesia due to the head injuries he received in the crash. A judge approved the exam, and Lovelace is due back in court September sixth when pre-trial requests will be considered.
Authorities said Lovelace was going south when his car crossed the center and hit all but two of a dozen bikers coming his way. It happened May 31st on the two-lane Highway 151 north of Fond du Lac. The bikers were part of a group that was heading home to Muskegon, Michigan from a Bridge Run event. 59-year-old Dan Winsemius died at the scene, and 43-year-old Doug Yonkers died at a hospital about a week later. Investigators said they found drug evidence on Lovelace, but he denied taking anything besides his two daily medications.
