Kenseth no longer NASCAR point leader

INDANAPOLIS - A crash knocked Wisconsin’s Matt Kenseth out of first place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings. Kenseth only completed 132-of-the-160 laps in yesterday’s Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Joey Logano spun out on a turn after a restart, and Kenseth could not get out of the way. His accident gave him a 35th place finish in Brickyard-400 – and he fell to second in the season point standings, 14 behind Dale Earnhardt Jr. Earnhardt has 731 points to lead the Sprint Cup Series for the first time since 2004. He finished fourth yesterday. It was the 21st straight time Earnhardt finished on the lead lap.

Paul Menard of Eau Claire won the Brickyard a year ago. And he was the state top’s finisher yesterday in 14th. But Menard still dropped one spot in the point standings to 16th. Travis Kvapil of Janesville also bowed out in an accident after just 40 laps. He finished 37th, but he held steady in the standings at Number-31. Jimmie Johnson won the race.
