National Night Out marked in Pierce County Aug. 7

Ellsworth and Bay City will join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the "29th annual National Night Out" crime and drug prevention event.

Ellsworth and Bay City will join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the "29th annual National Night Out" crime and drug prevention event Aug. 7.

National Night Out involves over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 37.1 million people are expected to participate in "America's Night Out Against Crime."

National Night out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

This will be the sixth year the Ellsworth Police Department has taken the lead in coordinating a National Night Out event, which will run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at East End Park. Ellsworth police officers will offer an evening of music, giveaways, games, educational displays, food and beverages. Joining them will be Village of Ellsworth board members, and a number of organizations and businesses promoting how each helps keep Ellsworth a great place to live.

Ellsworth police officers welcome the people they serve to join them in celebrating this event, which is free and open to the public. Please note this event will be cancelled if the weather is inclement.

The Bay City event will be held at Flat Pennies and is sponsored by Oasis Eatery at Nesbitt's Nursery and Flat Pennies. It will run from 6-8 p.m. Items on sale include hot dog with chips and Italian sodas with proceeds going towards the Bay City Enhancement Group.

There will be an obstacle course, seeds and pots for the kids to plant, so they can take home w/them and beautify their own gardens and lawns, and we'll have a visit from the Bay City Fire Department. For more information, contact Flat Pennies at (715) 594-3555.
