NEW RICHMOND - Two people who ran a hotel in New Richmond have agreed to settle a federal lawsuit, alleging that they evicted a woman because she rejected one of their sexual advances.
Gerald Hoglund and Stacy Wright agreed to pay $50,000 dollars to the woman for violating the Fair Housing Act last year. Prosecutors said Hoglund and Wright were managing the Lowrey Hotel-and-Café in New Richmond when a homeless woman rented a room – and Hoglund evicted her because she refused to give him oral sex. Wright was Hoglund’s fiancée at the time, and she warned the woman about Hoglund’s behavior – but officials said she did nothing to stop it.
As part of the settlement, Hoglund is barred from working as a landlord.
