MADISON - Alliant Energy of Madison reports higher earnings than a year ago, partly because of the hot weather that’s got people cranking up their air conditioners.
Alliant said today that its net profit was almost 66-million dollars from April-through-June, up from $64-million at the same time a year ago. Earnings totaled 60-cents a share, up from 58-cents the previous year.
Officials said the mild winter reduced Alliant’s natural gas sales – but people’s air conditioning use more than made up for it. Alliant is the parent firm of Wisconsin Power-and-Light and Interstate Power-and-Light of Iowa.
The firm still expects to have operating earnings of 2.75 to three-dollars a year for all of 2012.
