MADISON - The University of Wisconsin football team will hold its first practice this afternoon as the Badgers’ pre-season camp opens in Madison.

A new quarterback will emerge – and he’s expected to be Maryland transfer Danny O’Brien. Wisconsin’s dominant offensive line will be in new hands, as Mike Markuson replaces Bob Bostad as the line coach. And after what happened last week to running back Montee Ball, coach Bret Bielema could have more than his share of off-field issues to deal.

Ball was attacked by five unknown men last Wednesday – less than a week after several Badger players were reportedly involved in a fight near the campus with at least one person injured. Ball suffered a concussion and facial injuries, and he’s expected to miss most of the pre-season camp.

The Badgers will open their season on Sept. 1 at home against Northern Iowa.
