Miller explains how county services affect Prescott residents

PRESCOTT--For those who live in Prescott and wonder about the services Pierce County provides, those answers were made available Thursday as Pierce County Administrative Coordinator JoAnn Miller spoke to the Prescott Kiwanis Club about those topics and more.

“We protect your quality of life,” she said. “We pick up where the (city) can’t.”

Among those services she talked about were highway, the sheriff’s department and human services.

Highway keeps roads safe and clean, along with repairing bridges as currently is going on on CTH F. If an incident in the city required a K-9 dog, Miller said, Prescott could call on “Viper” and his handler, Sheriff’s Deputy Andy Thoms. As for human services, its goal “is to help those in need and we provide services for that,” she said.

She also answered questions about what a day is like and her role in the county.

“If there are problems or concern within the county, my job is to provide leadership,” she said, adding she is well-versed in “people and money.” Two more essential functions is acting as a liaison between the county board and the employees, and “make the people around me the best they can be.”
