Ellsworth Fire Department's annual parade Sunday
The Ellsworth Fire Department’s annual community parade will be held this Sunday.
The Ellsworth Fire Department’s annual community parade will be held this Sunday.
Registration will open at 11 a.m., according to organizer Tom Bjork. Units will line up near the former junior high school at S. Grant and Woodworth streets.
The parade will begin at 1 p.m., heading north on Grant Street and continuing to the southeast entrance to The Highlands subdivision on the village’s north side.
Around 100 units joined in the parade last year, Bjork said. Invitations and parade forms were sent out this year and organizers had already received responses from approximately 60 units as of last week. Each unit will be assigned a number.
Joe Hines and Larry Peterson will be parade grand marshals. Each has been active in the fire department for 40 years. It’s believed no others on the department since World War I have had such longevity.
“People’s Choice Awards” will be presented to the top three units, Bjork said. A panel of judges, comprised by wives of some of the fire department members, will determine the winners. The chosen units will be announced from a station to be set up along the parade route near Hill Funeral Home.
Participants will be able to register right up until parade time on Sunday. For more information, call Bjork at (715) 273-1425.
The public is invited to an open house at the fire hall immediately after the parade.
