KIAWAH ISLAND S.C. - Wisconsin will have two golfers in the season’s final major. Steve Stricker of Madison and Pewaukee native Mark Wilson are both in the PGA Championship which begins on Thursday.
A solid performance by Stricker will help him make the U.S. Ryder Cup team for this fall. He currently ranks 10th on the Ryder Cup points’ list, after he tied for second at last week’s Bridgestone Invitational. Stricker hopes to make the Final Eight, who get invitations to the Ryder Cup. Otherwise, Stricker would have to wait to see if U.S. captain Davis Love the Third selects him next month.
At the PGA, Stricker will play his first two rounds in a three-some that includes Ian Poulter and Louis Oosthuizen. They’ll tee off at 7:40 on Thursday morning and 12:50 on Friday. Wilson’s three-some includes Alex Noren of Sweden and George Coetzee of South Africa. They’ll start their opening rounds at 1 p.m. on Thursday at 7:50 a-m on Friday. Martin Kaymer, who won the 2010 PGA in Kohler, will be in a three-some with Tiger Woods and last year’s champion, Keegan Bradley.
