TO THE EDITOR: The article in the new Healthy lifestyle magazine (inserted in the July 25 Herald) that talks about cancer care available in Western Wisconsin completely omitted the high level of cancer care available in River Falls at the Rivers Cancer Center.
The Rivers Cancer Center was developed in 2007 and is the only center in Western Wisconsin accredited with commendation by the Commission on Cancer—a stamp of approval that ensures our patients receive expert, quality care close to home. The Rivers Cancer Center has been serving patients for more than five years.
The Rivers Cancer Center is a partnership between the River Falls Medical Clinic, the River Falls Allina Hospital and Minnesota Oncology—providing local, comprehensive and multidisciplinary cancer care services to patients in Western Wisconsin. The Rivers Cancer Center is affiliated with the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute, which models and excels at patient experience and quality of care.
Cancer patients at the Rivers Cancer Center have access to state-of-the-art prevention and detection programs including genetic counseling, digital mammography, MRI services and diagnostic radiology.
Our patients also have access to comprehensive treatment options including surgery (including robotic, minimally invasive and re-constructive), chemotherapy and infusion, care coordination, therapy and rehabilitation and clinical research trials.
Cancer patients at the Rivers Cancer Center receive individualized multidisciplinary care plans developed in multispecialty care conferences. Our patients are offered care coordination, working directly with a nurse navigator to help patients and their families better understand the cancer diagnosis, testing, treatment and other factors that impact the cancer journey.
Patients in Western Wisconsin are fortunate to have a choice and two options close to home.
