Rhinelander teen named America's fastest texter two years in a row

For the second year in a row, a teenager from Rhinelander has been named America’s fastest texter.

For the second year in a row, a teenager from Rhinelander has been named America’s fastest texter. 17-year-old Austin Wierschke won the sixth annual L-G National Texting Competition yesterday in New York’s Times Square. Eleven contestants from throughout the country took a series of speed, accuracy, and dexterity tests using an L-G Optimus Zip phone with a Q-W-E-R-T-Y keyboard. Wierschke won another 50-thousand-dollars – which he says will go to his college fund, just like the 50-thousand he won in the same contest a year ago. He said sent almost 500 texts a day to his friends to get ready for the event. Another of the competitors, Kelly Barracato, said she’s not surprised that Wierschke won again. As she put it, “His thumbs were flying.”
