Fair dries off from downpour Thursday, goes on as normal

A mid-afternoon heavy downpour from a storm system (which dropped lots of hail in the Plum City area) Thursday couldn't keep the Pierce County Fair from a strong opening day of its 129th edition at the Pierce County Fairgrounds in Ellsworth.
Once the storm was shaken and dried off the fair proceeded with judging for sheep and swine and exotic animals along with the horse judging, which will go on through all three days of the fair. The fair talent show and horse pull benefited from the sun and cool temperatures later in the evening.
Today's judging will be in junior and open dairy, horse, beef and goats with entertainment throughout the day from Ozseeker clown and magic show and singers Tina and Lena. There's also chainsaw carving demonstrations as well and presentation for the most admired senior citizen in Pierce County and presentation on Rural Electrification from the Pierce-Pepin co-op.
The fair midway opens at 10:30 a.m.
Tonight in the grandstand is the annual fair tractor pull at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $6 for all ages. Also tonight is the Pierce County 4-H/FFA Livestock Auction in the Arena Barn at 6:30 p.m.
