MILWAUKEE - Details of the violation haven’t been released, but Marquette University is self-reporting a rules violation to the NCAA.
Athletic Director Larry Williams has said the violation was discovered during the normal course of business. Williams says the school is conducting a joint review with the governing body of college athletics. Golden Eagle basketball had a 27-8 record last season, including 14-4 in the Big East. The campaign ended with a loss to Florida in the Sweet Sixteen.
The search for a running back who can hang onto the ball leads the Green Bay Packers to veteran free agent Cedric Benson. Insiders are calling some kind of agreement with Benson “probable.” ESPN is reporting it as fact. Injuries have slowed two Packer backs and James Starks has struggled. Benson is coming off three straight thousand-yard seasons in Cincinnati. He carried the ball 273 times for 1,067 yards last season, scoring six touchdowns.
Bucks forward Carlos Delfino and Manu Ginobli combined for 33 points, but it wasn’t nearly enough in Argentina’s 109-83 loss to the USA in the Olympics semi-final game. USA plays Spain for the gold. At 33 minutes, Delfino spent more time on the court than any player for either team. He hit 5-of-12 shots, including three treys, to scored 15 points to go with his five rebounds and three assists. Argentina will play Russia for the bronze.
