WAUKESHA - Though the choice has its risks, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is getting a lot of praise for choosing rising political star Paul Ryan as his running mate for the November election. The choice was announced yesterday. Romney and Ryan make their first campaign stop together in Wisconsin this afternoon in Waukesha.

The two will hold what is being called a “homecoming rally” at the Waukesha County Expo Center. Doors will open at 4 p.m., with the rally starting at 5:30. Governor Scott Walker is expected to join them. Romney made it official yesterday, choosing the seven-term congressman from southern Wisconsin as his vice presidential running mate.

Ryan has strong support among tea party members for his efforts to control federal spending. Friends and opponents alike call Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan likable and intelligent. Democrats and Republicans differ, however, when it comes to his politics.

Republican U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Oshkosh) says the just-named vice presidential candidate brings a record of leadership and personal integrity which is needed in Washington. Johnson says nobody understands the federal budget better than Ryan. Tea Party members say they are delighted Mitt Romney chose Ryan as his running mate. The 42 year old Janesville Republican has received a lot of attention in recent years for his role as chairman of the U.S. House Budget Committee.
