Cranberry harvest expected to increase two percent
Wisconsin News-- Despite the hot-and-dry summer, Wisconsin’s cranberry crop is expected to be two-percent bigger than last year’s harvest.

The National Ag Statistics Service projected today that Wisconsin will produce four-and-a-half million barrels of cranberries this fall. And for the 18th straight year, it will make Wisconsin the nation’s top cranberry producer. Massachusetts is second with less than half the harvest of Wisconsin, with two-point-one million barrels.
Tom Lochner of the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association said the warm spring and summer, and a dry pollination period, resulted in a high quality crop. He also said growers have irrigated to make up for the lack of rain – but Lochner noted that anything can happen in the next six weeks, before the harvest is due to begin.
