The Ellsworth Fire Department was called to the Beverly J. Prichard property, N6102 740th Ave., Ellsworth, shortly after 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Information at the scene indicated the occupants were out of the house.
The single-level, L-shaped residence appeared to have smoke coming from its roof line all around. Fire fighters worked among some pine trees immediately adjacent to the building as they put up a ladder and used a chain saw. The interior of the western portion of the structure (the part nearest the trees) was visibly scorched.
The cause of the blaze wasn’t immediately known. Besides the EFD, the Ellsworth Ambulance Service and Pierce County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene, on 740th between 580th Avenue (Crosstown Road) and Hwy. 65 in the Thurston Hill area northwest of the village.
