A man charged with killing his three daughters at his ex-wife’s home in River Falls is now accused of trying to burn that house down. An attempted arson charge was filed this week in Saint Croix County against 35-year-old Aaron Schaffhausen. Prosecutors said an investigator smelled gas at the home when investigating the murders, and found that a gasoline container was tipped over. Schaffhausen has been ordered to stand trial on three homicide charges in the slashing deaths of five-year-old Cecilia Schaffhausen, nine-year-old Sophie, and 11-year-old Amara. He’s scheduled to enter pleas to those charges next Tuesday. Authorities said Schaffhausen had divorced his wife in January – Aaron moved to Minot North Dakota – and his ex-wife agreed to let him to see the children alone on July 10th. Their bodies were found in the home later that day. A motive for the slayings has not been disclosed. Schaffhausen remains jailed in Hudson under a two-million-dollar bond.
