Brewers open three-game series at Pittsburgh

Wisconsin Sports
-- The Milwaukee Brewers will open a three-game series at Pittsburgh tonight.

The Milwaukee Brewers will open a three-game series at Pittsburgh tonight. Brewers’ catcher Jonathan Lucroy is starting to bounce back, almost a month after he returned to the lineup. Lucroy missed 50 games after he broke his left hand when a suitcase fell on it. He’s been back for almost a month, and he has hit .279 since then. Lucroy is batting .325 for the year with eight homers and 41 R-B-I’s. Two of those homers came in a seven-game home-stand that ended on Wednesday when the Brewers swept the Chicago Cubs. Lucroy went 6-for-18 in those contests, while driving in six runs. He says he’s not all the way back to where he was before the injury – but he’s getting closer. And Lucroy has been solid on his defense behind the plate. He was Milwaukee’s hottest hitter before his injury, with a .345 batting average, a .387 on-base percentage, and a .583 slugging percentage. He also led the Majors early in the year with a .514 average with runners in scoring position. This weekend, the Brewers will play a Pirates’ team that’s still in the thick of the National League Wild Card race, just one game out of a playoff spot. Right-hander Mike Fiers will start for the Crew tonight against Pirates’ left-hander Wandy Rodriguez.
