Several personnel moves have been going on lately at the Pierce County Courthouse and Office Building.

Laura Johnson started as the new switchboard operator in late July. She succeeds Cyndi Kern, who was promoted to deputy county clerk following the retirement of Gwen Swanson earlier this year. Kern has worked in the clerk’s office since 2004. Johnson was previously deputy register in probate. The county is still in the recruiting stage for the position, said Personnel Director Sandy Langer Wednesday.

The finalists for human services director are expected to be announced later this week. Langer said the county hopes to have Tammy Kincaid’s successor start by the first part of October. At the same time, the county will also be looking for a new co-children, youth and families manager, as Cassandra Malloy resigned to take a similar job in Eau Claire County. Her last day will be next Tuesday. Malloy has been with the county since 2009.

Meanwhile, also in human services, Rebecca Mueller was promoted to economic support lead worker, succeeding Emily Carlson, who resigned. Langer said the county will be filling Mueller’s position.

Things are quiet for now in the sheriff’s department after a busy few months, but the fall is expected to pick up again. Langer said the county is currently in the screening process for the half-time administrative assistant. Sheriff Nancy Hove said she hopes to fill three patrol spots by the end of the year. The openings occurred due to the retirements of Neil Gulbranson, Dennis Sorenson and Todd Hines, and employees switching positions as a result.

Hove also said the vacant investigator position, which was left open when Wade Strain was promoted to lieutenant, should be filled by early next month.
