MILWAUKEE - Marquette University assistant basketball coach Scott Monarch has been fired and head coach Buzz Williams will serve a one-game suspension.

Those steps are a part of the university’s self-imposed sanctions for recruiting violations which have been reported to the NCAA. School officials say Monarch gave team-issued apparel and provided transportation to a recruit. It also says he was caught giving false information to investigators after the violations were revealed.

Williams will serve the suspension because he has a duty to monitor his staff, but Marquette’s athletic director says there is no evidence Williams knew about the problems.
