MADISON - Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has shut down a four-day hunt for antlerless deer which state wildlife officials wanted to be held in October.
Walker says he wants to streamline the state’s hunting seasons. The governor says he is acting in accordance with a report given to the DNR last June by researcher James Kroll. The October hunt was a part of the Department of Natural Resources’ strategy against chronic wasting disease.
Walker says eliminating it shows hunters that state officials are listening to their wishes. Hunters have told him all the different seasons are confusing and have taken the fun out of the November gun season. Part of Walker’s campaign platform as he ran for governor was the promise he would reform the state’s deer hunting approach.
