Levy rate decline of 2.53% in Ellsworth schools' budget plan

A total tax levy that’s 2.53 percent less than the previous year’s was included in a preliminary budget proposal presented at the Ellsworth School District’s annual meeting Monday.
At $8,385,766, the levy compares with a total levy of $8,597,688 in last year’s budget. The mill rate in the 2012-13 plan, representing tax per $1,000 worth of valuation, is 10.26, which is down 2.63 percent from last year’s mill rate of 10.53.
The revenue cap in the ’12-’13 proposal is $15,722,100 and state equalization aid is $8,914,591. The cap is below last year’s $15,728,000 and the aid is above last year’s $8,561,320.
All budget figures are estimates at this time, Superintendent Barry Cain said.
