MBC volleybal teams go winless after first week of play

Pierce County's two Middle Border Conference volleyball teams will look for wins this week as they failed to get them last week.

Ellsworth went 0-8 at the SPRAWL Tournament in Menomonie. The Panthers went 0-5 in pool play on Friday and 0-3 in the pool for 10th place and won just three games all weekend.

Prescott meanwhile went 0-3 at the St. Croix Central Quadrangular. The Cardinals lost to Greenwood 25-27, 22-25; SCC 23-25, 25-16, and 16-18 and

Hudson 19-25 and 23-25. Despite the losses head coach Patti Tulip was still pleased with her team's performance.

"Even though we lost we played very well," Tulip said. "Some of the things we are working on is closing a close game. Overall the girls played very well as a team. You could some of the girls were slightly nervous, especially the girls new to the team. I am pleased with the girls and I look forward to the season."

Leading in assists Annie Pryor with 10, Emily Bayer with nine and Maddie Brunner eight. Leading Blockers were Anna Weiser and Lauren Bieter each having four block kills. Leading Servers Maddie Brunner and Annie Pryor each served 100% and Maddie had one Ace. Kellie Magee had 6 Aces, Anna Weiser had 4. Leading Attacks Anna Weiser had 11 kills, Kate Kroska and Lauren Bieter both had eight. Katy Syverson had 41 digs, Cassie Murphy had 23 digs.

Ellsworth is at Elmwood tonight and hosts a triangular on Thursday with St. Croix Central in Glenwood City which begins at 5 p.m Prescott hosts Hastings on Thursday and this match begins at 7 p.m.
