CHICAGO - Yovani Gallardo won his sixth consecutive start last night, as the Milwaukee Brewers topped the Chicago Cubs 4-1 at Wrigley Field. Jeff Bianchi hit his first career homer, a three-run blast in the second inning which gave Milwaukee its seventh straight victory over the Cubs.

Gallardo struck out nine in seven innings, giving up a run on three hits with three walks. All told, Milwaukee pitchers struck out 15 Cubs last night – and it extended the Brewers’ streak of games with 10-or-more K’s to seven. That’s the longest streak of its kind in the Majors since 1900. Gallardo’s only mistake was a solo homer to Cubs’ starter Travis Wood, who lost his eighth straight decision and fell to 4-and-11 on the year. Francisco Rodriguez tossed a perfect eighth inning, and John Axford set down the Cubs in order in the ninth to earn his 21st save. Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke allowed Bianchi to swing on a 3-0 count in just his 20th big league at-bat – and he belted a letter-high fastball from Wood over the wall in left. The Crew scored its other run in the eighth, when Rickie Weeks got caught in a rundown just long enough for Norichika Aoki to score from third. Aoki doubled and singled in four trips, as the Brewers improved to 4-1 on their seven-game road trip.

The Cubs will host the Crew again tonight. Rookie right-hander Mike Fiers will face Cubs’ right-hander Jeff Samardzija.
