Minnesota Sports Briefs: Vikings' final preseason game tonight

HOUSTON -- The Minnesota Vikings play their final preseason game tonight in Houston against the Texans.

Minnesota is 1-2 this preseason and coming off a 12-10 loss to San Deigo last week at the Metrodome. Joe Webb is expected to start at quarterback and play the first quarter, with Sage Rosenfels taking over in the second. The Vikings have some decisions to make on their roster as they will need to get down to 53 players by the NFL deadline on Friday. Vikings open the regular season at home September 9th against Jacksonville.

The NFL is using replacement referees to start the regular season. NFL.com reports the league has informed all 32 teams via memo that stand-in officials used this preseason will be on the field when the Giants host the Cowboys next Wednesday.

Sports Illustrated believes the Lombardi Trophy will return to "Titletown" this season. SI's Peter King predicts the Packers will defeat Peyton Manning and the Broncos in Super Bowl 47. King also thinks the Packers will beat the Cowboys, Bears and Saints in the NFC playoffs.

The Washington Wizards signed former Minneosta Timberwolves swingman Martell Webster to an undisclosed contract yesterday. Webster averaged 6.9 points and 36 rebounds in 47 games, including 26 starts, with the Wolves last season Webester was originally drafted by the Portland Trailbalzers in 2005 and came to Minnesota in a draft night trade in 2010.

Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig announced yesterday that the 2014 All-Star game will be coming to Target Field. Selig was flanked by Twins greats, Paul Molitor, Tonly Oliva and Rod Carew as he made the announcement. This will mark the third time the 'Mid-Summer Classic' will be played in Minnesota, the Twins hosted the game in 1965 at Met Stadium and in 1985 at the Metrodome. Selig said he expects Target Field and the Twins Cities to be a great showcase for the All-Star game, and that the game will have a major economic impact to the area. The 2013 All-Star game will be held at Citi-Field in New York.
