Rosenfels, Carr cut by Vikings
Minnesota Sports-- Veteran quarterback Sage Rosenfels and cornerback Chris Carr were among 20 players cut loose by the Minnesota Vikings Friday as the team announced its current 53-man roster for the upcoming 2012 season.

Rosenfels, who's started 12 games over an 11-year stint with five different teams, spent the latter portion of last season with the Vikings and was re- signed by the club in March to presumably serve as the No. 3 quarterback behind Christian Ponder and Joe Webb. However, Minnesota elected to keep former UFL player McLeod Bethel-Thompson in that role.
The 34-year-old hasn't appeared in an NFL game since making five starts with Houston in 2008, but has thrown for 4,156 yards, 30 touchdowns and 29 interceptions with stops in Washington, Miami, Houston, Minnesota and the New York Giants.
Carr signed a one-year deal with the Vikings during the offseason after spending the past three years with Baltimore, starting 16 games for the Ravens in 2010. The 29-year-old has made 27 starts and intercepted six passes over seven NFL seasons with Oakland, Tennessee and Baltimore.
Minnesota also released defensive end Jeff Charleston and safety Eric Frampton while waiving wide receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux, defensive tackles Chase Baker and Trevor Guyton, guards Chris DeGeare, Tyler Holmes and Austin Pasztor, fullback Ryan D'Imperio, cornerbacks Bobby Felder and Reggie Jones, running backs Lex Hilliard and Jordan Todman, offensive tackle Kevin Murphy, linebacker Corey Paredes, defensive end Nick Reed, center Quentin Saulsberry and tight end Mickey Shuler.
The Vikings also placed offensive tackle DeMarcus Love on injured reserve.
Frampton had been with Minnesota since the 2007 season, while Guyton was a seventh-round pick by the team in this year's draft.

The Vikings wrapped up their preseason schedule with a 28-24 loss Thursday night at Houston. None of Minnesota's starters played in the fourth exhibition game. Running back Jordan Todman rushed for a 78-yard touchdown and finished with 114 yards and wide receiver Jarius Wright caught an 81-yard TD pass and had 122 yards before spraining his ankle. Veteran wide-out Devin Aromashodu solidified his roster spot with a 58-yard touchdown pass from Sage Rosenfels in the second quarter. Rookie kicker Blair Walsh went 1-for-2, making a 36-yard kick and missing a 43-yard attempt. The Vikes' open the regular season September 9th at home against Jacksonsville.

Five national architectural firms have reportedly submitted plans for the new Vikings stadium to be built in downtown Minneapolis. They include Kasas City-based Populous, the same company that designed Target Field, Xcel Energy Center and TCF Stadium. Another bidder is from Kansas City -- the others are from Dallas, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. Officials are expected to pick the winning bid next month.

A 45-year-old man fell to his death during the Vikings-Texans preseason game Thursday night at Reliant Stadium. CBS Houston reports the man was trying to slide down the outside rail of an escalator when he fell three stories and landed on the pavement below. He was pronounced dead at a Houston hospital and was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Police are investigating the incident as an accidental death. The Texans edged the Vikings 28-24 in the final exhibition contest.
