Bags of gold found in a dumpster in West Allis

MILWAUKEE - A judge in Milwaukee was told Friday morning that bags of gold were found in a dumpster near a coin store in suburban West Allis.

The store has been part of a bitter court battle over the estate of the store’s late founder, David Derzon. Kevin Demet, the lawyer for Derzon’s two sons, said quote, “something was going on.” A hearing was scheduled Friday after officials learned that two women who were running the store since 2008 took $792,000 from the company just days before their ownership rights were stripped.

The money has since gone to an administrator who’s now overseeing the store, Ben Stern. Demet also said an ex-employee returned jewelry to the store after Stern took it over. He did not say how much gold or jewelry had been returned. A judge ruled nine days ago that one of the women who owned the coin store wrongly pressured Derzon’s widow Rebecca to include her in the Rebecca’s will just five months before she died.

The judge’s ruling allowed Derzon’s two sons to get 60-percent of the three-million-dollar estate. Rebecca’s half-brother Paul Johnson is getting the rest.
