Alma/Pepin edges EPC in close contest 35-26

PLUM CITY - This back and forth prep football contest between EPC and Alma/Pepin went in Alma/Pepin's favor thanks to big plays made by the Eagles' Cole Carroll.
Caroll picked up a fumble and returned it 55 yards for a TD in the first first quarter and scored on a 40-yard run in the fourth quarter to seal the win for A/P after EPC rallied to within two points at 28-26.
EPC trailed 28-14 heading into the fourth quarter when EPC scored twice, on a one-yard TD run by Tom LaFlex and 15-yard TD pass from LaFlex to Kyle Webb.
LaFlex also scored on a four-yard run and threw a 27-yard TD pass to Logan Wolf. LaFlex finished the game with 252 yards passing and 17-of-31 completions. Wolf caught six passes for 111 yards and Seth Jones caught five passes for 77 yards and Eli Fredrickson had three catches for 43 yards.
But EPC was held to just 47 yards rushing to A/P's 254. Ryan Erickson led the Eagles with 121 yards on 26 carries.
A/P had a big edge in special teams as Charlie Raethke made five extra point kicks while EPC converted on just one extra point attempt. EPC was also hurt by three turnovers, two fumbles and an INT.
Tyler Freyholtz led EPC with 10 tackles and four assists. Webb had seven tackles, four assists, a sack and three tackles for loss. David Rhy had an interception.
EPC will try to gain its first win of the season next week at Clear Lake.
