MADISON - The University of Wisconsin football team hopes to tighten up its defense when it plays at Oregon State on Saturday.

The 12th-ranked Badgers got by Northern Iowa by five points last Saturday in Madison. And junior safety Dezmen Southward said he and his teammates quote, “left plays on the field that shouldn’t happen.” He missed a key tackle when the Panthers scored their second touchdown.

Linebackers Mike Taylor and Ethan Armstrong lost contact with UNI receivers on a pair of touchdowns. And defensive coordinator Chris Ash said his unit made various mental mistakes that were unacceptable. Ash said quote, “It’s time that collectively, we put together a 60-minute game. If not, we’ll ride the roller coaster like we have in the past until we realize that.”
