HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - What was rumored for weeks became official yesterday for NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth of Cambridge. Joe Gibbs Racing said Kenseth would drive the Number-20 Toyota in the Sprint Cup Series starting next year.
The move had been speculated since June, when Kenseth said he would leave Roush Fenway Racing at the end of the season. He’ll replace Joey Logano, who’s expected to sign with Penske Racing for next year. The crew chief for the Number-20 car will stay with that vehicle, Jason Ratcliffe. And it will keep its main sponsors, Dollar General and The Home Depot. Neither Kenseth nor Gibbs would say how long their agreement extends beyond 2013.
One of Kenseth’s new teammates will be Kyle Busch – who says he’d like Kenseth’s son Ross to drive for a team he runs in the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck series.
