The Dunn County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday natural causes is the likely cause of death of a Boyceville man who died August 29.

Dennis Rettke, 66, was in the woods doing some mowing with a four-wheeler with a pull behind a gas mower in the Town of Tiffany. Sheriff Dennis Smith said it appeared Rettke had become stuck on a steep hill and had unhooked the mower from the four-wheeler. He was found on the ground between the two. Smith said nothing indicated anything suspicious.

Smith later added a Boyceville EMT and a Dunn County deputy sheriff were overcome by the heat because of the amount of physical exertion and temperature. Both were transported to area hospitals and have recovered and are doing well.

Rettke was a former Superintendent of Boyceville Area Schools who was succeeded by former Ellsworth High School principal Charles Buckel. His funeral is set for Friday, Sept. 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyceville.
