DURAND - The results of a Middle Border Conference quadrangular meet Tuesday did nothing to correct early indications the conference title chase will be wide open and balanced.
Prescott and Ellsworth's volleyball teams tied for first with 2-1 records but Durand and New Richmond were both 1-2, meaning these results could have easily been very different if a point or two went the opposite way.
EHS lost to Prescott in the first match 25-27, 27-25, 12-15 but bounced back to edge New Richmond 27-29, 25-22, 15-12 and they swept Durand 25-18, 25-18.
The win over Ellsworth was the Cardinals' first this season.
Ellsworth was led by Olivia Helmer's 28 assists and 16 kills. Kenzie Diercks had 14 kills and Morgan Christopherson had 10 kills and five aces.
The Panthers improve to 5-9 overall while Prescott is 2-5. Ellsworth is off the rest of the week and plays again next Tuesday, hosting River Falls. Prescott is at Elmwood Thursday.
