CARMEL, Ind. - Madison golfer Steve Stricker is tied for 16th after the opening round of the BMW Championship near Chicago.
Stricker shot a four-under-par 68 yesterday, as the third-of-four Fed-Ex Cup playoff tournaments got underway. Stricker entered the tournament in 16th place in the Fed-Ex point standings.
Rory McIlroy, Webb Simpson, Bo Van Pelt, and Graham De Laet are all tied for the first-round tournament lead at eight-under-par 64. Players were allowed to lift and clean their golf-balls because the course was still soaked from last weekend’s remnants of Hurricane Isaac.
Pewaukee native Mark Wilson shot an even-par 72 in his first round at the BMW. He’s tied for 56th in the tournament, and he’s 44th in the Fed-Ex standings.
The Top-30 after Sunday will advance to the final playoff event, The Tour Championship in Atlanta in two weeks.
