SPRING VALLEY - Spring Valley only trailed Elk Mound 6-0 at halftime of their prep football game Friday at Syverson Park. And they trailed 14-7 midway through the third quarter. But then Elk Mound scored 28 unanswered points for a 42-7 Dunn-St. Croix Conference win.

The Mounders, 3-0 overall, 2-0 in the D-SC, went ahead 14-0 but Spring Valley came back with a 61-yard TD run by quarterback Zack Newton on beautifully executed fake.

Unfortunately it was the last score for the Cardinals (1-2 overall and 0-2 in the D-SC) in the ballgame. EM responded immediately to Valley's score with a 60-yard TD run by Jordan Klemp. He also had TD runs of 65 and 60 yards in the second half on simple trap plays. This was the result of EM spreading out the Cardinals' defense with their passing game led by quarterback Nick Heit connecting on touchdown passes to Nate Mack and Dakota Tarnow.

Spring Valley will try to get its first conference win next week at Colfax.
