"We thought it would be tight coming into the season and nothing we saw Tuesday changes our opinion,” Prescott head coach Patti Tulip said. “Each game, each point is going to be closely contested.”
League play begins Thursday with Ellsworth at Somerset and Prescott hosting New Richmond. Somerset, along with Baldwin-Woodville, are the defending MBC champs.
Ellsworth also sees itself as a contender, despite losing a 3-1 non-conference match to River Falls last Tuesday.
"We didn't beat ourselves, we let the game beat us with all the mistakes we made," Ellsworth head coach Tanya Powers said. "But when we played error-free we were as good as River Falls and it's a good sign for us."
The Dunn-St. Croix Conference has already begun its season and one of its biggest match-ups is tonight as Plum City is at Mondovi. Both squads won Tuesday with the Buffaloes gutting out a 3-2 win over Pepin while Plum City easily swept past Glenwood City 3-0. Mondovi has already beaten PC this season as they swept them in a quad meet at Mondovi.
Also in action tonight in the D-SC and looking for their first wins are Spring Valley, as they play at Pepin, Elmwood as they host Boyceville.
