PC tops Mondovi, takes lead in D-SC volleyball

MONDOVI - Plum City High School's volleyball team sits atop the Dunn-St. Croix Conference standings after the first week of play after beating Mondovi 3-2 Thursday.

The Blue Devils, 2-0 in the D-SC and 13-4 overall, came back from a 2-1 deficit by winning Game 4 by a 29-27 score and then took Game 5 on the Buffaloes' home court 15-12.

Marah Boyer led PC with 16 kills, two aces, three blocks and 18 digs while teammate Sarah Gilles had an ace, 10 kills, three blocks and six digs; and setters Ashlie Miller and Shelby Kannel both had 44 assists.

The Devils will be in Grantsburg for a weekend tournament and will try to hold on to the top spot in the league when they host Pepin next Tuesday. The Lakers lost to Mondovi Tuesday 3-2 but bounced back to beat Spring Valley Thursday 3-1. Game time is at 7 p.m.

Also in league action from Thursday Boyceville traveled to Elmwood and swept the Raiders 3-0 by scores of 25-10, 25-18, 25-15. Both Elmwood and Spring Valley are at the bottom of the D-SC with 0-2 records.
