Minnesota Sports-- Finally, Minnesota pitcher Liam Hendriks has his first Major League win.
CLEVELAND - Finally, Minnesota pitcher Liam Hendriks has his first Major League win. He earned the victory by working six strong innings in Cleveland last night in a 6-4 Twins win.
Hendriks was making his 18th career start and is now 1-and-9 in his career. He was three starts short of tying the big league record for most starts without a win. Josh Willingham went 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBI, while Joe Mauer knocked in a run and scored another for Minnesota, which has won the first two in the three-game series. Glen Perkins notched his 13th save. Minnesota pushed Cleveland into last place in the American League Central Division with the win.
The same two teams play a matinee today to close out the set.

The Minnesota Twins are changing where their Class A Midwest League team will call home. The move from Beloit, Wisconsin to Cedar Rapids, Iowa was announced yesterday in Cedar Rapids, where the team is called the Kernels. The new agreement is for four years. The move ends a 20-year affiliation that Cedar Rapids had with the Angels. Twins Director of Minor Leagues Jim Rantz Sr. says the deal was put together quickly, with big league executives first coming to Cedar Rapids on Monday. The team in Cedar Rapids plays in Veterans Memorial Stadium, which was built in 2002. Cedar Rapids is about 275 miles south of the Twin Cities.

The Minnesota Lynx are in Los Angeles to square off with the Sparks tonight. Minnesota finished off a home-and-home sweep of the Fever with an 86-79 win on Monday. The Lynx have already locked up the top spot in the West. Tip-off tonight is at 9 p.m.

University of Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill says it is unlikely that starting quarterback MarQueis Gray is in uniform on Saturday. Gray injured his ankle in last week's win over Western Michigan. Kill says Gray is recovering well from the sprain, but will almost certainly not be ready for this Saturday night's game against Syracuse in Minneapolis. Max Shortell, who spelled Gray in last week's win and threw three touchdown passes, will be the starter. Phillip Nelson, a true freshman from Mankato, will be Shortell's reserve on Saturday.

Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says he'd like to see his team make a few more explosive plays because it helps the offense score points and also demoralized the defense. But, he also says he has been fine with how his team's offense has played more of a "dink and dunk" type of strategy. He says prolonging drives can wear defenses out and that is part of their goal. Minnesota hosts 2-and-0 San Francisco on Sunday at noon.
