Valley's Homecoming game crucial for playoff chances
Prep and college football coaches would prefer sure wins and easy opponents to play on Homecoming, given how much of a week of Homecoming activities are to game preparation. Unfortunately Spring Valley does have that luxury.

The Cardinals can't just ease into their Homecoming contest this Friday. They must take it to Mondovi right away in order to beat the Buffaloes and keep themselves alive for a playoff bid.
SV, 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference, is coming off a 13-6 road win over Colfax last week. Valley's defense shutdown Colfax offense and held the Vikings to just 80 yards of total offense. They'll have to do the same if not better against the Buffaloes, 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the D-SC, who come also needed a win after being walloped by St. Croix Central last week.
Nick Van Vleet is Mondovi's leading ground gainer with over 400 yards rushing in four games. he's second in the D-SC in rushing. The Buffs’ Ian Scott is third in the D-SC in passing yardage with 273 and four touchdowns.
Two other Homecoming games will be played tonight. Ellsworth has theirs, hosting New Richmond while the Elmwood side of the EPC equation has not only their Homecoming but their first game of the season at Elmwood as they play Turtle Lake.
Prescott's Homecoming is next week. This week they are at Baldwin-Woodville.
