New Richmond appeared to be the perfect team for Ellsworth to play for homecoming Friday night.
The Tigers didn’t have a win, scored just three touchdowns in four games and gave up an average of 26.25 points per game.
But New Richmond upended Ellsworth with a 14-7 win in Ellsworth.
EHS lone TD was a 42-yard pass from quarterback Jake Murphy to Dennis Schutz midway through the fourth quarter.
The Panthers had the ball twice in the later minutes of the ballgame with a chance for the tying score but was unable to move the ball.
The Tigers controlled play for the majority of the game, running 64 plays to the Panthers’ 35, and pounded out 297 yards of total offense. Ellsworth, by contrast, had just 124 yards of total offense.
Ellsworth(2-3, 2-2 Middle Border) had just four first downs and committed four turnovers in the loss.
Brandon Vandermarliere led the Panthers with 32 yards rushing on eight carries, and Schutz added 25 yards on seven attempts.
Ellsworth travels to Osceola next week, needing to win two of the final three games to make the playoffs.
