MINNEAPOLIS (Sports Network) - The University of Minnesota football team is off to its first 3-0 start since 2008 after a 28-23 win over Western Michigan last weekend. A win against Syracuse would be big for Minnesota, giving the squad four wins for the first time since 2009 and the first time under Jerry Kill.
The Gophers play Syracuse, 1-2 overall, at home tonight with kick-off at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on BTN.
This will be a real measuring stick for each of these teams. Minnesota will unfortunately be without its most important offensive weapon in Marqueis Gray, who was injured against Western Michigan and will be out for several weeks. The U will have to prove it can still pick up yards without him. Meanwhile, Syracuse will be seeing how well the squad's aerial assault travels. The Orangemen won their first game last week against Stony Brook.
U wide receiver Andre McDonald was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons Thursday but treated and released the same day. He's been battling a knee inflection since the start of the season and listed as questionable for this evening's contest.
