BAY CITY—Pastor Gene Hasselquist professes to love life, so much so he’s determined not to let retirement get in its way.

“They had a disagreement and Pastor Wilson wasn’t going to serve them anymore,” he explained Friday about how he came to be called for preaching duty, referring to William Wilson at nearby Svea Lutheran in Hager City. “But the bishop allowed them (Tabor members) to stay together.”
So the “retiree” now preaches once a month, visits shut-ins and gives communion, he said.
