HASTINGS - The Hastings bridge has been reopened to traffic, having been closed all weekend while bridge construction crews lifted the main span of the new bridge into place.
The bridge reopened at about 11:50 a.m. Monday morning.
The main span for the new Hastings bridge was moved into place Sunday evening, and the lift of the 6.5 million pound structure began overnight.
Things really got moving at around midnight as the 545-foot span was slowly lifted 50 feet.
Once the lift was over, crews were to get to work to secure it in place. By noon, the current bridge reopened to traffic.
