Minnesota News Briefs: Teen Suspect arrested in St. Cloud murder
Minnesota News-- St. Cloud Police have arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with the death of a 20-year-old Greenfield man. Authorities say the suspect from St. Cloud was taken into custody late Monday afternoon.

According to police, 20-year-old Colton Gleason was in an alley walking with a group of friends when a car with several people inside pulled alongside them. One of the occupants got out of the car and punched Gleason in the face, causing him to fall back and hit his head on the asphalt. He died the next day from head trauma. Police investigators are holding a news conference this afternoon. A memorial fund has been set up for Gleason. You can donate at any U.S. Bank.

This is the sixth annual "Day of Remembrance" for murder victims across the state. A number of law enforcement agencies are holding ceremonies to honor those killed and their families, including Ramsey County and Duluth. Seventy-three people in Minnesota were victims of homicide last year. The Minneapolis Police Department is using the event to remember Officer Jerry Haaf who was shot and killed by gang members 20 years on this day. Organizations that provide services and support to loved ones of victims are also being recognized today.

Between August and September, there have now been 19 motorcycle fatalities in Minnesota. The latest is 35-year-old Jeni Johnson of Vernon Center, who was killed when she lost control while approaching an intersection east of Mankato. Johnson is the 48th motorcyclist to die on Minnesota roads this year. In all of 2011, there were 42.

A man struck and killed by a Union Pacific train in downtown Dundas late Sunday night has been identified. Police say the investigation into the death of 33-year-old Willem Vanvliet is ongoing. The Dundas man was pronounced dead at the scene and police say he was not in a vehicle at the time of the incident. No other information has been released.

A St. Cloud woman was taken to the hospital Sunday night after police found her lying unconscious in the street. The 47-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries. Anyone with information is asked to contact the St. Cloud Police Department.

The parents of a gay Minnesota soldier killed overseas are launching a statewide tour by veterans against the marriage amendment. Jeff and Lori Wilfahrt of Rosemount appeared at a kickoff event today at the State Capitol. Their son, 31-year-old Corporal Andrew Wilfarht, died in Afghanistan last year. Andrew was gay and his parents are talking about how he would have been affected by the proposal to define marriage as only between one man and one woman. Minnesotans will vote on the measure in November.
