The Prescott High School girls golf team hopes to become the first in school history to qualify for sectionals as they compete in the WIAA Division 2 Osceola Regional today at Krooked Kreek Golf Course.
The top four teams and top four golfers not on a qualifying team will move on to the sectional meet next Tuesday in Hayward.
“Prescott has never made sectionals in girls’ golf so again, if we’re looking for accomplishments for this season, this will be a big one,” PHS head coach Debbie Hunter said. “I like the way we’re hitting right now and the fact we’ve played well at Krooked Kreek in the past has us confident. If we work real hard at improving our short game, we stand a good chance of making it.”
With only two golfers Ellsworth certainly won't qualify as a team but both those individuals, seniors Aubrey Langer and Karissa Seibel, have the opportunity to qualify for the sectional meet. Langer made second team all-conference and Seibel played well enough towards the end of the season to make honorable mention All-MBC.
"The last few weeks Karissa has been playing very well,” Ellsworth head coach Kit Feuerhelm said. “Her short game has improved a lot. She’s gotten better at chipping and putting. The way the trend is going with her, she’s got every chance of qualifying for sectionals too.”
Also participating in the regional meet are Amery, Baldwin-Woodville, Luck/Unity, Osceola, Somerset, St. Croix Central, St. Croix Falls.
